What Is BOTOX®?

When talking about BOTOX® treatment, we’re talking about a series of small injections in specific parts of the face. Very small does of diluted botulinum toxin are administered via these injections and naturally freeze the muscles. This helps them to relax and release the wrinkles and fine lines they cause. In most cases, patients begin to notice results within five days, and they can last for more than five months.

Who Is a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?

How Long Does BOTOX® Last?

Everyone’s skin is slightly different, so this answer will vary slightly from patient to patient. Typically, BOTOX® will last about three to four months. Additionally, it’s not uncommon for first-time BOTOX® users to have slightly shorter-lived results. You can generally expect your BOTOX® results to last longer after your second or third treatment. Some patients even see results that last five months or more.

Does It Hurt to Get BOTOX®?

We go to great lengths to ensure that all our treatments here at Dental Designs of New England are as comfortable as possible, and this includes our BOTOX® treatments. Fortunately, most patients are pleasantly surprised at how quick, easy, and virtually painless it is to rejuvenate their facial appearance with BOTOX®! You may experience a very slight stinging sensation, but the BOTOX® material itself is not painful. Common side effects include minor swelling, redness, and tenderness around the injection site, but these symptoms should be mild, easy to manage, and fleeting.

Who Should Not Get BOTOX®?

Many patients are good candidates for BOTOX®, but we’ll first meet with you for a consultation and evaluation to ensure this service is a good choice for you. Patients with a history of sensitive skin may experience more pronounced side effects around the injection site, but this will not always disqualify you from getting BOTOX®. However, we typically won’t recommend treatment for patients who are in poor health, who have very thick skin, or who have an existing muscle condition or weakness near the treatment area.

How Often Will I Need BOTOX®?

This is another question that will depend entirely on your unique situation and needs. How often you should consider BOTOX® retreatment will vary based on factors like your age, the severity of your wrinkles, and how long the results of BOTOX® treatments typically last for you. Generally speaking, most patients will begin to see their original face lines reforming after about four or five months, and will thus seek out retreatment. However, you may want to come in more or less frequently based on your unique situation.
