Adults who don’t want to wear braces often turn to Invisalign instead. Chances are you have been considering this image-friendly orthodontic treatment if you have crooked teeth or an uneven bite that you want to improve. In many cases, summer can be a particularly good time to start the Invisalign process; below are just a few reasons why.
Reason 1: A Schedule That’s Not as Busy
Once fall comes around and school starts up again, your schedule is likely to become very hectic very fast. In contrast, your summer schedule probably isn’t as busy. As such, it will be much easier for you to set up the all-important initial Invisalign appointments so that you can begin the process as smoothly as possible. This is especially the case if you were planning on taking a few days off to relax anyway.
Reason 2: No Need to Miss Out on Your Favorite Summer Foods
From popcorn at the movies to corn on the cob at outdoor gatherings to candy apples at amusement parks, summer is filled with foods that those who wear traditional braces unfortunately have to miss out on. However, one of the advantages of choosing Invisalign as an orthodontic alternative is that it doesn’t restrict your diet at all; even if you begin the treatment right now, it won’t keep you away from your favorite summer snacks.
Of course, you do need to practice good oral hygiene to make sure Invisalign isn’t trapping particles of food in your mouth. Always rinse off your aligners before you put them back in. You should also get into the habit of brushing your teeth whenever you’re done eating.
Reason 3: A Less Stressful Time for Adjusting
When you have a lot of things to do, the discomfort that often occurs at the beginning of the Invisalign process can potentially add to your stress. If summer is a less busy time of year for you, then it can be the perfect opportunity to give your mouth a chance to get used to your new aligners. For the record, adjusting to Invisalign generally takes about one to two weeks.
Reason 4: No Visible Brackets and Wires in Summer Photos
Summer photos can bring back great memories – but they can also be very embarrassing if you’re wearing highly noticeable traditional braces. With Invisalign, you don’t need to worry about having your picture taken; the clear aligners are practically invisible to the point that most people won’t realize you have them unless they see you taking them out. As such, there won’t be any cause for you to feel self-conscious about putting on a big grin for the camera.
